FAQ'S

BLEED

What is bleed?

“Bleed” is a printing term used to indicate the area with a background image that will be trimmed off after the file is printed and cut down to the finished size.

  • There should be no text or other important information in the bleed area.

  • Projects that make use of image bleed should extend any bleeding background and/or images at least 3mm over the final paper trim edge.

  • It’s also good practice to set margins at least 5mm from the edge of the document.

  • This ensures a more professional appearance and eliminates any risk of type or images being accidentally “nicked” during trimming.

CMYK vs RGB

What is the difference between the CMYK and RGB color space?

"RGB" refers to the primary colors of red, green, and blue. "CMYK" refers to the primary colors of pigment: cyan, magenta, yellow, and black. The CMYK colors are used on printing presses to make any hue possible for "full color printing."

RGB colour is generally used for screen design such as websites.

DELIVERY TIME

How long will it take to get my order?

This will depend on job type but most jobs will be ready within the first week after the approval of your proof.

We are keen to work with you to achieve realistic deadlines. A small job such as 500 business cards should only take about 5 - 7 working days. But a larger job such as a full colour book with multiple pages will take at least a few weeks. This is because of all the different printing and finishing processes involved.

Please discuss your deadlines with us upon ordering and we will strive to deliver on time!

FILE FORMAT

What file formats will providers accept?

We prefer to accept PDF files from our clients as these are ready to print and wont cause any problems when it comes to fonts etc.

However, we will accept MS Word, Powerpoint, Mac or PC versions of Quark, Pagemaker, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Publisher, and any file output as a PDF file.

We will accept files on CD, DVD, or USB stick. When emailing artwork, please dont send anything larger than 6mb and its best to call the office and ensure it has arrived ok.

INVITATIONS

Do you do Invitations? If so what sort?

Yes we do invitations. But we dont specialise in invitations with bows and feathers and special textured papers.

We do provide a great graphic design service for modern printed invitations.

Please call in and ask to view some samples of the invites we have designed and printed.

QUANTITY ORDERED

Will I always receive the exact amount of prints ordered?

Most times you will receive a little more than asked for free of charge. Printing industry trade standards allow for shortages up to 5%, so if you are planning prints to be sent out for a mailing list, it is wise to order 5% more than you need to make up for the possible shortage.

RESOLUTION

What is resolution?

Resolution is the measurement of how many dots/pixels fit into one inch.
The higher the resolution, the sharper the image will be.

It is widely recognised in the graphics and printing industry that a resolution of 300 dpi (dots per inch) will achieve a professional, crisp, clear result.

Lower resolution images appear fuzzy, jagged and blurry.
